1-27-13            Nolan and Michael unloading the first of five trailer loads of timbers for the cabin timber frames.
2-10-13 Waiting for Mongo to get out of the way so Nolan and Dwayne can finish unloading the third load.
2-17-13
Nolan and Michael unloading load #4 while Mongo (aka Bucket Head) watches.
350 lbs. No problem!
(thanks Photoshop)
Where do you want it!
We have three piles of timbers in our driveway waiting for their turn in the shop.
It's suppose to rain later so I'll tarp them for now and open them up whenever it's nice so they can breathe and not mold.
4-20-13
We have about the same amount of snow as last year this time. We couldn't quite drive to the dome, but it is melting fast.
Mongo loves the snow!
He is sad to see it go.
5-4-13
After taking care of a septic issue at home we are finally free to work on our project again. Bruce came up to cut some trees for us. We decided our first project this season would be to open up our view to the south.
While Bruce cut trees, Dan, Mike, Brandon, and Jackson cut, cleared, and burned brush on our lower landing.

5-5-13
We spent the rest of the weekend yarding trees down the hill, then cutting and clearing our mess.
5-18-13
Robbie came to help on Saturday. In the evening we had a nice fire. Dan got creative and opened my wine for me :)
6-1-13
Bruce felled the bigger trees to the west first. Brendan had felled a few on the east side for us last week and Bruce finished with the rest on that side.
At the end of four weekends we had all the trees that Bruce cut for us yarded down. Our landing was clear and we were ready for the next round (I think).
We have another mess of trees to clear, starting with these that are over the only road off the landing. We'd better get busy if we want to get back to the cabin some time tonight!
6-9-13 Brad came up to install the bars we had him make for our shop windows. Now our shop is pretty secure from a break in.
Our southern view before and after.
7-8-13 Meet "Buckminster" aka "Buck". Our new St. Bernard puppy!
Buckminster Fuller.
Alex Karras as Mongo
Buck and Mongo.
The Doggie Boys.
These two timber frame barns are being disassembled in Portland, OR and then re-assembled back east somewhere. The floor boards are not being shipped and our friend working on this project thought of us when they were being sold.
3-24-13 Even though it is still tax season we made time to purchase and haul this stash of old-growth fir flooring that will some day be a part of our dome interior.
8-10-13 We moved everything out of the shop so we could roll around the scaffolding and tighten all the bolts on the dome (a step we hadn't completed).
8-10-13
Dan, Dan, and Chase marking the site for our woodshed.
8-18-13
With the help ofMike and Brandon we finished digging the post holes. We are sharing time at the ridge and at their cabin building woodsheds at both places.
9-2-13
Our posts are put in their holes.
Meanwhile the decking on our trailer had to be replaced. Dan nearly broke his jaw on his first attempt as one of the boards sprung loose and came up under his chin.
While Dan(ny) was home he helped put the last board into place (a bit of a challenge).
9-14-13
Our posts have been leveled and squared and the holes filled with concrete.
They used the genie lift to place the top plate on the posts.
9-14-13
Brandon trying his hand at making a mortise.
While they worked on the woodshed I painted the primer and first coat of brown on the basement foundation.
9-15-13
Our shed, ready for rafters.
10-4-13
Meanwhile, now that we have the dome ready for storing triangles, we loaded Bruce's and Dan's trailers with Marty's help and headed to the ridge after work Friday night.
10-5-13
The next day Bruce and Doug helped unload the trailers.
10-6-13
Back at the shop, Dan uses a tool our friend Brad made. It holds the drill and slides down to make perfect holes. The woodshed rafters are almost finished.
10-10-13
Robbie came up and helped Dan put up the heavy!! rafters.
10-14-13 Rafters, purlin plates, and fascia boards installed.
10-20-13 Sheeted and nailed off, ready for roofing.
10-20-13
With pick-axe in hand, I dug a ditch for the floor drain while they worked on the woodshed. Today I finished the digging and Dan installed the pipe then I filled it in.
Bruce brought over several scoops of soil in his tractor bucket and Dan and I leveled the floor of the woodshed.
10-26-13
Our woodshed complete.
Our friends Bruce and Joy bought the place next to ours on the ridge. They have been spending their summer making improvements. I made a rock wall behind their new wood stove and Dan installed a mantle from a beautiful piece of quilted maple that was milled by Bruce's Dad and given to Dan upon his passing.
A break from our project for hunting season!
Dan's hunting partner of 31 years and good friend passed this fall. He died at dark on the last day of hunting season. Rest In Peace, Phil.

12-15-13
Buck and Mongo enjoying the snow.
We had a beautiful Christmas tree from the ridge, but the best presents weren't under the tree. We had all the kids and grandkids home for Christmas and a special gift from Robbie and Karissa that Grandchild #4 is on the way!
