June 6th 2009 we broke ground on the site for the shop building. Doug brought up
his excavator and leveled the shop area and trenched for the footing
forms.
One area in
the shop site had soil that was a deep red color.
Dan cut and numbered all the footing form boards
in the shop at home. Then we hauled them to our ridge top where
we unloaded and placed them close to where they would be
needed.
Dan, Mike, & Bob assembled and set the forms using a laser
level and a theodolite.
After the outer forms were set the ground was compacted.

view, to the right is the mountain view and back by the tent is where the shop
is being built.
On
June 21st 2009 Doug started excavating for the cabin's daylight basement.
June 28th 2009
The first half of the hole went pretty
fast then we hit some rocky areas and things slowed down.
On July 25th 2009 the hole for the basement is finished.
There were some adjustments to make. Dan, Dan, Robbie, and
I filled and compacted the low areas. I think this was just about the
hottest weekend of the year.
The footing forms are put together, leveled,
and staked down. The cleats are added and the rebar installed. After the conduit
is finished we are ready for the concrete.
On August 17th 2009 we were ready to fill the shop
and cabin forms with concrete. We were unsure if they would bring concrete to us
on top of our ridge. A pumper truck and three trucks brought us 27 yards of
concrete.
